JOESPH "JOESKI" KLECZYNSKI

REQUIEM FOR A GENTLEMAN AND A CONNOISSEUR OF FINE KIELBASAjoeski joeski_2

Last night, June 8th, 2008, the Battle Creek Steelheaders lost a wonderful and beloved member of our club.  Joseph “Joeski” Kleczynski made everyone's life a just a little better by merely being a part of it.

Joeski was our newsletter editor forever.  His first edition still exists on a cave wall somewhere in France to this day.  It depicts a group of hunter gatherers roasting a 'possom with a kielbasa in its mouth.  He also served as president and did yeoman service for us all.  I had one of my typical brain farts and came up with the idea of doing a full color montage of our activities on a placemat for the Xmas party.  The problem turned out to be that we couldn't afford the expense of getting them printed commercially.  Joeski to the rescue.  He had them printed in his shop and we only had to pay for the materials.  In the final analysis, we had four different placemats which meant washing the press down four times. The labor was on him.  That's the kind of person he was.

On Paczki day, I tried to create a special Paczki just for him.  One year it was a kielbasa Paczki and another was a Polish dill pickle stuffed Paczki complete with Polish flags and sparklers.  I always made it a point to drive them to Battle Creek to deliver them personally to his office.

Joe's life had recently evolved in his favor.  He had his dream house and met his dream woman.  I have never met her but was looking forward to their nuptials...so much so that I put a new T shirt on layaway just for the occasion.

Sleep well, dear friend, and know you will be missed.
